Thinking of buying a new home? Education is crucial to the buying process, and understanding your warranty is part of the education you need. The most typical of home warranties is the 2-5-10 year. In most cases this warranty took effect in July 1999 and you should check to make sure it is approved under the BC Homeowners Protection act.
The elements of a 2-5-10 year warranty are:
- 2 years coverage for materials, workmanship and major systems
- 5 years coverage for the building envelope
- 10 years coverage for structural defects
